Agra: Taj Mahal: Buildings
The Taj Mahal was built in the 17th Century by Shah Jehan as a memorial to his wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died in 1630.

Standing on the halfway bridge. These people are clustered around the Princess Diana bench.
Looking back at the entrance gate
Round the back of the mausoleum, the sun makes the white marble look golden
The side walls in shadow remain silver
One of the matching buildings at either side of the Taj. The one facing East is used as a mosque; this is its counterpart.
From the corner of the garden
The classic archway silhouette
A wide view of the whole garden (two shots blended)
The building backs onto a river, beyond which are the foundations for the second Taj Mahal which was to be built as a mirror image in black marble. It was started but never finished. Click on it to see the movie!
