The year 2018 started extremely cold, and the hard freeze resulted in the many frostweed plants in our back yard exploding. Their sap expands and freezes into white ribbon flowers. They are fragile and brittle things. This year’s were really very large compared with ones I’ve seen in the past. They don’t last, however; as soon as the sun gets onto them and the temperatures come up a little, they melt.
